Peterloo

Peterloo

The ‘Peterloo Massacre’ was the conclusion of a peaceful rally in St. Peter’s Field, Manchester to demand the expansion of voting rights. It was violently dispersed by a cavalry charge at the instruction of local magistrates, killing as many as 18 people and injuring several hundred.

The title comes from a newspaper headline of the day and is an ironic reference to the Battle of Waterloo which had taken place four years earlier.
